如月

如月 (Kisaragi) was Toshiya's second band. They formed in his third year at Nagano Shun'ei High School (April 1994 to March 1995). In an interview on Nack5 FM Triangle Super Audition, Toshiya explained that the band's name, which is an archaic word for "February", was one of the names considered for Dir En Grey. In October 2022, Kaoru mentioned on The Freedom of Expression that an alternate band name for Dir En Grey was a two-kanji word. Although this more or less confirms the alternate band name being written as 如月, it's unknown if the band name of Toshiya's band was also written in kanji, or instead in hiragana (きさらぎ), katakana (キサラギ) or romaji (kisaragi).

Also in his third year, Kisaragi performed at the school's culture festival, covering bands like ZIGGY, LADIES ROOM, BUCK-TICK and LUNA SEA, but also the German metal band Helloween. This was the first time Toshiya took the stage. They also performed at a live house about a month later.
