  • 19., 20. or 21. – On one of these days, Kaoru goes to Ichinomiya to attend Michael Jackson's concert, but because he doesn't have a ticket, he stands on a nearby bridge and manages to see inside the Hankyu Nishinomiya Stadium.

1988

April

  • Kyo enters the Toka Junior High-School in Kyoto.
  • In his fifth year in elementary school, beginning in April 1988, Shinya's family returns to their old home, where they stay until Shinya's second year in junior high-school.

1989

April

  • In his second year in junior high-school, Kyo learns about Atsushi Sakurai from a classmate and becomes interested in rock music.[1]
  • Kaoru enters high-school.[2][3]
  • 21. – Kaoru buys X Japan's major debut album BLUE BLOOD.[2][3][4]
  • 25. – Kaoru goes to his first live of X Japan at Kosei Nenkin Kaikan in Osaka. It inspires him to learn playing guitar.[2][3][4]

1990

April

  • In his second year in high-school, beginning in April 1990, Kaoru forms his first band DIE:STERIA.[3][5]
    • It's possible that the band was already formed in the latter half of his first year.[2]
  • In his first year in high-school, beginning in April 1990, Die watches a live of his senior's ZIGGY cover band P-SHOCK at their high-school's culture festival and decides he also wants to be in a band.[6]
    • He forms his first band that year, but due to others wanting to play the guitar, Die plays drums instead.[5][6]

October

  • In October of his first year in junior-high school,[7] beginning in April 1990, Shinya forms his first band with a friend. They copy PERSONZ and BUCK-TICK in Shinya's basement, using a cowbell as a snare.[8]

1991

  • At the age of 15, which he turned this year on February 16, Kyo buys a guitar and tries to play X JAPAN's songs. He also tries to play bass.[5]

  • In January of his first year in junior-high school,[7] beginning in April 1990, Shinya buys a drum set with his New Year's money.[8][9]

  • 09. – Toshiya goes to his first concert, Hideaki Tokunaga in Nagano, likely on this day.[4][5]

March

  • Kyo completes compulsory education. He begins to work at Kyoto's Central Market, where he meets members of ALBATROSS and later joins them as a roadie.[5][10]
  • Die buys his first guitar during the Spring before his second year in high-school.[5]
  • 22. – Kyo possibly attends his first live of Strawberry Fields on this day at 京都MUSE HALL.[1][4][10][11]

April

  • In his third year in high-school, beginning in April 1991, Kaoru performs on a stage for the first time at his high-school's culture festival.[3]
  • In his second year in high-school, beginning in April 1991, Die discovers D'ERLANGER and aims to be like their guitarist CIPHER. He begins to play guitar and performs on a stage for the first time at his high-school's culture festival,[12] as a member of his female kendo senior's LINDBERG cover band.[5][6]
    • Around two months later, he performs a live with his own band.[12]
  • In his third year in junior high-school, beginning in April 1991, Toshiya tries playing the guitar as his first instrument.[4][13]
  • In his second year in junior high-school, beginning in April 1991, Shinya's family moves to the Hyogo Prefecture.[5]

1992

  • At the age of 16, which he turned this year on February 16, Kyo puts on make-up for the first time as he is performing as the vocalist of a roadie band,[12] they cover one song by かまいたち (Kamaitachi).[14]

April

  • Kaoru attends a vocational school for bookkeeping for one semester, from April to September.[3]
  • In his third year in high-school, beginning in April 1992, Die joins the student council to be able to perform at this year's culture festival.[15]
    • In SHOXX #70, Die says that he was asked to be the vocalist for a ZIGGY cover band. This might've been during his third year in high-school.[5][15]
  • In his third year in high-school, beginning in April 1992, Die attends his first live, of ZIGGY.[5]
  • Toshiya enters the Nagano Shunei High-School.
  • In his third year in junior high-school, beginning in April 1992, Shinya's family returns to their old home in Osaka.[5]

August

  • Kyo sees an ad for Kuroyume's 中絶, released on July 20, in the ロッキンf magazine (likely the August issue).[10]
  • 29. – Kyo attends LUNA SEA's live at 京都ROCK天国.

December

  • 05. – Kyo attends Kuroyume's live at 京都ROCK天国.[10][16]

1993

  • Kyo works as a roadie for Kuroyume four times at 寝屋川VINTAGE BAR. The possible dates are: March 13, June 20 and July 29, 30 and 31, 1993.[16]

March

  • After being sporadically active for around a year after Kaoru graduated from high-school, DIE:STERIA disbands around this time.[5]
  • Toshiya sees hide and TUSK on SHOXX #15 (March 1993) and is inspired to try on make-up.[12]
  • Towards the end of his third year in junior high-school, Shinya performs on stage for the first time at the Kuzuha Civic Center. There, he plays drums in four or five of five or six bands at his high-school's graduation ceremony.[5][8][17]
    • The exact number of bands Shinya played drums in isn't clear, as he has given both numbers in various interviews. One of the bands covered Kamaitachi, another the singer Shizuka Kudo, a third the band Princess Princess and in a fourth, the vocalist performed songs in the style of Yutaka Ozaki.[8]

April

  • Shinya enters high-school where he forms his first serious band, 人工天使 and performs with them for the first time, at 枚方BLOW DOWN.
  • Die enters a vocational school, likely the Osaka School of Music, for one year, from April 1993 to March 1994.[4][5][15]

May

  • Die attends Eikichi Yazawa's live at 大阪厚生年金会館. The possible dates are: May 20, 21 and 22.[15]
  • 21. – Kyo possibly hands out leaflets after a live of LUNA SEA at 京都会館 on this date. The other possible date is January 17, 1994.

August

  • Kyo forms his first band 月蝕.
  • At the end of August, 月蝕 distributes their first demo tape for free at Kyoto Sports Valley.

September

  • 29. – 月蝕 debuts at 枚方BLOW DOWN.

October

  • In the latter half of his second year in high-school, beginning in October 1993, Toshiya forms his first band with his friends.[5][8]
  • 23. – 月蝕 performs at 京都ROCK天国.

December

  • A band picture of 月蝕, published in Band x Artist #7 (May 2000), is dated to December 1993.
  • 26. – 月蝕 performs at 京都ROCK天国.

1994

January

  • 15. – Kaoru does not attend the coming-of-age ceremony. He also isn't in a band at this time.[18]
  • 16. – 月蝕 performs at 京都ROCK天国.
  • 17. – Kyo possibly hands out leaflets after a live of LUNA SEA at 京都会館 on this date. The other possible date is May 21, 1993.

February

  • Sometime after February, CHARM forms.

March

  • 20. – 月蝕 performs at 京都ROCK天国. TOKUKO secedes after the live.
  • After one year, Die leaves the vocational school and moves to Osaka.[4]

April

  • In his third year in high-school, beginning in April 1994, Toshiya's first band reforms and he also forms 如月.[5][8] With one of them, he performs on a stage for the first time at his high-school's cultural festival.[4][5][8] They cover songs by LUNA SEA, LADIES ROOM and BUCK-TICK.[17]
    • About a month later, he performs at a live house for the first time.[8] This was around his graduation in March 1995.[5]
  • In his second year in high-school, beginning in April 1994, Shinya's band 人工天使 disbands and he joins Siva.[5]
    • His family also moves again during this time.
  • 11. – 月蝕 performs at 枚方BLOW DOWN, along with with Kisaki's band LAYBIAL. 月蝕 disbands after the live,[19] Kyo and Kisaki meet for the first time.[5]

June

  • Viṣṇu records a demo tape, five copies are given out as a present by the magazine Azalie.
  • A band picture of Siva, published in MISSIONxxxx Vol.6, is dated to June 1994.

  • 2. – Kaoru goes to the 7th Tokyo International Film Festival in Kyoto, where Bridget Fonda is present for the premiere of the movie The Road to Wellville.
  • 10. – 狂殺会 performs at 寝屋川VINTAGE BAR.

  • 08. – Siva performs at 枚方BLOW DOWN.
  • 11. – Siva performs at 梅田GUILD.
  • 13. – Siva performs at 大阪城天.
  • 16. – Siva performs at 心斎橋BAHAMA.

December

  • 10. – A band picture of Siva, published in MISSIONxxxx Vol.6, is dated to December 10, 1994.

1995

  • Die begins to perform at live houses with Ka・za・ri.[4]
  • At one point in 1995, Kyo and Shinya perform together for the first time in a session band at 枚方BLOW DOWN. The details are unknown.[20]

January

  • Siva performs at 枚方BLOW DOWN and disbands after the live. Except for the bassist, the members move their activities to Osaka and form Ruby along with Kisaki on bass.
  • 12. – Viṣṇu performs at 京都MUSE HALL. It's their fourth live.
  • 15. – Die attends the coming-of-age ceremony and helps as a member of the commitee.[18]
  • 17. – During the Kobe Earthquake, Kaoru works at a glass factory in Osaka. He is also a member of CHARM at this point.
  • 24. – Kaoru attends the KISS concert at Osaka-jo Hall.
  • After the Kobe Earthquake, Die works part-time as a builder of temporary shelters. He is also a member of Ka・za・ri at this point.

April

  • In April 1995, Toshiya enters a vocational school of arts in Nagano. Around this time, he also begins to work as a roadie for GOSICK for about six months.
    • During his time at the vocational school, he forms cruel.
  • 22. – Ruby performs at 市川CLUB GIO.

May

  • 05. – Ruby performs at 枚方BLOW DOWN.
  • 10. – Ruby performs at 金沢vanvanV4.
  • 14. – Ruby performs at 大阪城天.
  • 24. – Viṣṇu performs at 京都MUSE HALL and renames to Masquerade after the live.

July

  • A picture of Kaoru, published in MISSIONxxxx Vol.6, is dated to July 1995 and commented with "CHARM early days".
  • 06. – Masquerade performs at 京都MUSE HALL.

August

  • In SHOXX #69, Shinya explains that he and Kyo met for the first time in August 1995, when Kyo came to watch Shinya's session band (name unknown, Vo. Unknown / Gt. #4 / Gt. SHIGE / Ba. KISAKI / Dr. Shinya).[21] However, in Haiiro no Ginka #34, Shinya says that their first meeting took place in September 1995. It's currently unknown in which of the two months it happened.
  • 15. – Masquerade performs at 心斎橋MUSE HALL.
  • 25. – Masquerade performs at an unknown venue.
  • 30. – Masquerade performs at an unknown venue.

September

  • ??. – Shinya and Die meet for the first time when Ruby and Ka・za・ri perform at the same live at 尼崎LIVE SQUARE VIVRE.[21][22][23]
  • 30. – Masquerade performs at 大阪amHALL.
    • In Haiiro no Ginka #34, Shinya explains that he and Kyo met for the first time in September 1995 at Osaka amHALL, when he performed as the drummer of a certain session band (name unknown, Vo. Unknown / Gt. #4 / Gt. SHIGE / Ba. KISAKI / Dr. Shinya).[24] It might have been on this day.

October

  • 18. – Ka・za・ri performs at the "VISUALIZE" Vol:1 event at 枚方BLOW DOWN. 化け化け族 possibly performs as well.
    • At this live, Kyo and Die likely met for the first time.[25][26]
  • 21. – 廃人黒薔薇族 performs at 心斎橋BAHAMA.
  • 22. – A photo of a dressed-up Kyo in full make-up exists, so he possibly performed with an unknown band at an unknown venue on this day.

  • La:Sadie's officially forms.
  • 02. – A photo of Kyo at 大阪城天 exists with this date on it. It's unknown if he performed there two days in a row or if the date on the photo is incorrect.
  • 03. – 廃人黒薔薇族 performs at 大阪城天.
    • Afterwards, Kyo distributes a flyer that only reveals his name and the date of La:Sadie's first live on January 14, 1996.
  • 11. – CHARM performs at 尼崎LIVE SQUARE VIVRE.
  • 15. – CHARM performs at 大阪amHALL.
  • 23. – 廃人黒薔薇族 performs at 寝屋川VINTAGE BAR.
  • 24. – Kaoru and Kyo meet for the first time at Osaka-jo Hall, where Kaoru is handing out flyers for CHARM.[5][21]
    • Kyo showed up with other members of his band, which was most likely La:Sadie's. However, it seems Die and Shinya weren't present.[21]
