In Shoxx #65 (July 1998), Kaoru explains that "in Nagano, before [they] became Dir En Grey, [they] did a copy of a certain band and performed here for the first time with the current members." According to Band x Artist #3, they performed under the name DEATHMASK and played 黒夢 (Kuroyume) covers. According to an interview with Toshiya, they met on January 23 and on the next day, they booked two hours of studio time to practice. At the show, they played around four songs and Toshiya also performed with D†L. In 2022, Shinya mentioned more songs they performed at the live, but also said that they performed around five songs.
Among tereko traders, a recording of a cover of Kuroyume's 親愛なるDEATHMASK exists. Allegedly, it was performed by 廃人黒薔薇族, but since the audience appears to call Toshiya's name, it was most likely recorded at this live.
