刹那 is one of the three songs by Dir En Grey that were never properly released and only performed live in their indies era from 1997 to 1998. The other two are 藍紫色 and 新曲2. However, this song was eventually reworked and released as UnknownEllipsisDespairEllipsisa Lost.
刹那 is one of the four unreleased Dir En Grey songs from the band's indies era (1997 to 1998). The other three are 新曲2, 新曲6 and 藍紫色.

The first confirmed performance of 刹那 was on May 31 and its last known performance was on September 15, 1997. By October 28, the song was heavily reworked, but still retained its original title, as seen on that day's setlist and in its live report, both published in SHOXX #59 (January 1998). Afterwards, the song's title was likely changed to 新曲6 ("New Song 6") for a short while, as Kaoru is asked about a song with that title in FOOL'S MATE #198 (April 1998). He explains that he felt the need to change the title because the song had changed too much. While there's currently no other known mention of 新曲6, taking the date of the interview into account, he was most likely talking about 刹那. The first published use of "UnknownEllipsisDespairEllipsisa Lost" as the song's title can be found in SHOXX #62 (April 1998), on the setlist for January 14, 1998.
刹那 is unique among the four songs for two reasons: It has no known working title in the form of 新曲 and a number, and it is the only one to have been reworked and properly recorded in a studio setting. It was also performed the earliest of the four songs, with its first known performance taking place on May 31, 1997. Its last known performance before being heavily reworked was on September 15 that year. By October 28, the song was performed with a new structure, but retained its original title, as seen on that day's setlist and in its live report, both published in SHOXX #59 (January 1998). Sometime between October 1997 and January 1998, the reworking would lead to the song being renamed to UnknownEllipsisDespairEllipsisa Lost. This new song title was first used in SHOXX #62 (April 1998) on the setlist for January 14, 1998.

However, it's unknown when exactly the song received its interim and final title, as both the interview (where it's called 新曲6) and the setlist (where it's called UnknownEllipsisDespairEllipsisa Lost) were published in April. While the setlist was most likely provided to the live report's author on the day of the live, the interview was conducted sometime after the live. As such, it's unknown why the song is still called 新曲6 in the interview.
In Bandやろうぜ (July 1998), Kaoru reiterates that UnknownEllipsisDespairEllipsisa Lost is the remade version of a song that previously existed. This was confirmed years later by Shinya in the MINERVA -THE UNRAVELING- photobook, published in 2013. In 2020, Kaoru used the setlist of the June 14, 1997 live with this song on it as a t-shirt design. This marks the first known time the song was publicly recognised by a band member since their indies days, aside from Shinya's aforementioned explanation in 2013. In June 2023, Shinya took to Twitter to clarify that 新曲6 was not the working title for 刹那 and instead a completely different song.

刹那 (Setsuna) is one of the four unreleased Dir En Grey songs from the band's indies era (1997 to 1998). The other three are 新曲2, 新曲6 and 藍紫色.

刹那 is unique among the four songs for two reasons: It has no known working title in the form of 新曲 (Shinkyoku) and a number, and it is the only one to have been reworked and properly recorded in a studio setting. Sometime between October 1997 and January 1998, the reworking would lead to the song being renamed to UnknownDespaira Lost. This new song title was first used in SHOXX #62 (April 1998) on the setlist for January 14, 1998.

In Bandやろうぜ (July 1998), Kaoru reiterates that UnknownDespaira Lost is the remade version of a song that previously existed.

You can listen to the May 31, 1997, performance of the song here.
